  • Volunteers: Their group is currently working on making snaps and menstrual kits for families in third world countries, and they welcome anyone who would like to help sew from home.

AMBUCS, Salina A.M. Breakfast Bandits

  • Immediate Needs: Not currently. Their group is not able to meet and the corporate office is not able to deliver trikes at this point.

American Red Cross – Central & Western KS

COVID-19 has put strain on their resources and in addition to the pandemic they still need to be prepared to help with other disasters which tend to increase in the spring from storms. Ashby House

Bethany Home Association

  • Immediate Needs: Personal protective equipment for staff and clients. Facemasks are a big need.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina

  • Immediate Needs: Monetary donations or volunteer as a Big. There are over 10 pending Big matches and each match costs $1,250 for the first year.
  • Volunteers: Volunteers to load donated items from their donation bins in town. Email bbbs@bbbssalina.org if interested. It takes a littles less than one hour to load items and heaviest items would be approx.. 10 lbs.
  • Additional Info: One of their programs is a site-based program within the schools. This has been hit hard. Working to make connections without being on-site, in any way possible. Recruiting is definitely tough right now too!

Birthright of Salina

  • Additional Info: Most volunteers they have are older women, so they have shut their office down. There is a national 800 number which is on all of their literature if someone has an emergency and canmake special arrangements for people to meet at the office if needed.

Coronado Area Council, BSA

  • Additional Info: Their afterschool programming has been cancelled and their fundraising campaign has been put on hold.

Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas

  • Volunteers: They have not had any volunteers in the office but are working on ways that volunteers can help remotely.

    Central Kansas Mental Health Center
  • Current Impact: High (significant)
  • Anticipated Impact (Next 12-18 months): High (significant)

  • Immediate Needs:
    • Ten (10) low cost phones to provide telehealth services remotely to indigent clients with serious mental health needs. Each flip phone is $10 and the 90 day plan (300 minutes & 300 texts) is $40. The total costs for 10 phones is $500.
    • Two (2) additional laptops for telehealth (with microphone and camera). Each laptop is $900, or $1800 for 2 laptops. This would allow staff and clients to safely provide services and prevent the spread of coronavirus.  Their clients tell them that telehealth services are working well and are much needed. They have also seen an increase in referrals due to heightened anxiety and depression.
    • Face masks!
  • Additional Info: Converting to Tele-health has been the biggest change in operations from 20% to 90$. Wellness checks are being conducted via burner phones and staff has been doing peer support groups via Zoom. The Youth Crisis facility is still open, but if they do not have enough face masks or other personal protective equipment, that is at reisk of closing as well. The youth facility keeps patients stable and prevents them from needing hospitalization.

Child Advocacy & Parenting Services (CAPS)

  • Immediate Needs: Could use devices with data plans to share with the families so they can connect and educate the parents and families.
  • Additional Info: Their biggest priority is taking care of the families they are serving but there are challenges with access to internet. They have seen an increase in child abuse and are currently doing all medical examinations and interviews on site instead of the hospital. The respite care serves 57 children and 37 families has been closed causing significant impact. They are working on alternative Zoom meetings with families to stay connected.

Child Care Aware of Kansas

Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas (DVACK)

  • Immediate Needs: Donations and personal protective equipment for staff and clients.

Emergency Aid / Food Bank

  • Volunteers: People can still help virtually by liking and sharing on social media. No physical volunteers needed at this time, but that may change soon!
  • Additional Info: The building has to be closed to the public, but they continue to serve people through the windows in the garage. Once everything hit, their service numbers went up dramatically, about 40%.

Friends of the Smoky Hill Museum

Heartland Early Education

  • Immediate Needs: They are offering grab and go lunches and breakfasts through the Child and Adult Care Food Program, M-F which is very helpful for their families. They also have a Blessing Box outside their facility to help the neighborhood. As soon as food is put into it, it is gone. Food insecurities are a big concern.

Independent Connection

  • Immediate Needs: Biggest thing is to continue to refer folks to their services. Their doors may be locked, but they are still working and want to help people in need.
  • Volunteers: They could use a volunteer to help distribute and coordinate surveys to their clients.

Kansas Wesleyan University

  • Additional Info: Other areas impacted: Student Enrollment (unable to recruit in person, visit area high school, or offer campus visits. Revenue loss from cancelled summer camps. Academic Instruction on Campus re-imagined.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Child Development Center

  • Immediate Needs: Supplies for the Pre-School Classrooms are always in need! They also have a blessing box in front of their school that needs donations.
  • Additional Info: Not serving as many children, but their hours remain the same and they are still there for the families.

Noon Network AMBUCS

Saint Francis Ministries

    • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for our frontline social workers and older drivers.
    • Food for parents, who are essential workers, that had the resource of schools providing breakfast and lunch and now cannot access the food.

Salina Animal Services

Salina Art Center

  • Volunteers: Virtual volunteer opportunities: Vloggers/Bloggers to interview artists for the Salina Biennial Exhibit; social media “experts,” willing to share their time/talent to engage users online, train SAC staff, technical assistance to help SAC audience navigate technology, Access to 3D photography to do virtual tours of their gallery space.

Salina Family Healthcare Center

  • Immediate Needs: PPE and sanitation supplies
  • Additional Info: Their target population is the uninsured and underinsured in our community. If there is a program or support for these individuals that someone would like to fund, we maybe able to facilitate the administration of it. For example, we have a medication voucher program but the agencies in town that normally assist with this are running low on funds. We could manage it internally if funding was available.

Salina Initiative for Restorative Justice

Salina Public Library

  • Immediate Needs: They continue to look for ways to support increasing their digital collection. They also need to invest money in supplies for the staff and materials to mitigate the spread.

Salina Rescue Mission

  • Immediate Needs: Continued financial support is always helpful! The basic food items they always need are ground beef and canned vegetables.
  • Additional Info: It has changed how they serve meals to the public. It is open to the entire community, just currently not allowing people inside the Mission. Only a To-Go option right now.

Salina Shares

  • Immediate Needs: Volunteering would be the main thing, tough with the stay at home order. Food Bank has had an overage on bread recently, so they have been giving this out from their front porch. Birthright gave them every size of diaper, which has been helpful.
  • Additional Info: Laundry Love has been impacted greatly. They pay for 5 loads of laundry a month to help families. They have now offered to the regulars to come by and get the material to the families. They have recieved more laundry help requests for laundry than usual.

Salina Symphony

  • Additional Info: They still maintain their commitment to provide scholarships. The main change is that the state 4-H office has cancelled all camps for the kids which has had a huge impact on the kids activities and the organization’s revenue.

Saline County Community Corrections

Saline County Dept of Senior Services

  • Immediate Needs: Funds to help build up dry commodities to provide additional food support for senior shut-in’s. They are also interested in providing a larger scale phone services that provides a phone call to seniors for social interaction.
  • Volunteers: Meals On Wheels is in need of volunteers to deliver commodities and volunteers for social phone calls to seniors.

Smoky Hill Education Service Center

  • Additional Info: They also have had a tremendous increased usage of their Marty Bender Nature Area. It is a beautiful spot to enjoy anytime, specifically during social-distancing.

The Salvation Army

  • Immediate Needs: Continue to buy tickets for shows that are in the fall or could move to 2021, Continue to support the Theatre with Friend’s memberships and Corporate Sponsorships. Hang onto purchased tickets for shows with dates that have moved.

The Temple (Salina Innovation Foundation)

  • Additional Info: The roof repair was completed right before the major “shut down,” which was huge. However, they have lost a majority of revenue due to event cancellations.
