Over $50,000 in Grants Awarded by Community Foundation!

SALINA, Kan.— The Greater Salina Community Foundation recently awarded over $50,000 to 13 charitable projects and organizations through its competitive fall grant cycle.

This year’s grant recipients include funding toward supporting renovations to serve the community, instructional items in classrooms, and playground improvements.

This cycle’s grant recipients include the following:

  • Ashby House, LTD $5,000 to replace flooring in two apartment units.
  • Gypsum Summer Youth Program, $5,000 toward teacher and bus driver salaries
  • Salina Child Care Association, $5,000 to purchase two new commercial washers and dryers.
  • Kansas Wesleyan University, $1,000 to support the First Responders Wellness Conference.
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Child Development Center, $4,200 to replace the front building awning.
  • USD 305, $3,300 to purchase (30 units) of new microscopes for Lakewood Middle School.
  • Central Kansas Extension District, $595 to support attending the Community Action Poverty Simulation Facilitator training.
  • First Covenant Church, $2,389.50 to purchase items for learning centers.
  • Salina Grace, $9,500, to support the building of the showers.
  • Salina Family YMCA, $2,500 to purchase an AED and supplies.
  • City of Gypsum, $6,000 to support renovation of the Vicki Ade Memorial Park.
  • Francis Ministries, $4,461.50 to support the building for the Therapeutic Recreational Playground.
  • Young Life - Salina Area, $5,389.50 to help purchase basketball goal and hanging signs.

This round of grants was made possible by five funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which supports projects and programs that improve the community’s quality of life; the Kansas Health Foundation Fund, which supports the public health of Saline County; the Fund for Greater Salina which supports funds used for a variety of charitable causes that positively impact the community; the L.P. “Pat” Mullen Fund, which supports hands-on learning opportunities for youth in the areas of arts and humanities and science, technology and invention; and the YW Legacy Fund which encourages women’s growth, leadership and power, helps children and creates an environment to assist in the physical and mental health and wellbeing of women and their families, and pursue the elimination of racism.
