Legacy Award: Phil and Linda Krug

Phil and Glenda Krug shared a love of family and a commitment to community. Glenda was a local real estate broker, KU graduate, and adventurer who hiked the Grand Canyon and ran a marathon. Phil was an insurance business owner, K-State graduate, and dedicated community volunteer. Though both were lost far too early to cancer, their generosity continues to make a mark on others and fulfill Phil’s dream of making a positive impact on others into perpetuity.
Upon her passing, Glenda left 1% of her trust proceeds to the Foundation to establish a designated fund supporting two charities she loved: CAPS and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina. Phil took pride in the gifts her fund provided each year and made plans to expand their legacy through his own estate. Following his passing in 2019, the fund became part of the Phil and Glenda Krug Family Fund. Today, it supports the American Red Cross of Greater Kansas, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina, CAPS, First Presbyterian Church, and Tammy Walker Cancer Center, along with business education and athletics at K-State and nursing, education, and athletics at KU.
For Phil, the fund was also a way to pass the value of giving back on to his children. He said, “It’s good to teach your kids to give back. What better legacy can you leave than helping them understand the importance of making their community better?”
