Job Title: Accountant

Responsible to: Director of Finance

Status: Full-time

Purpose: This position leads the accounting cycle to ensure GSCF’s accounting processes are timely, accurate, efficient, and consistent.

The Foundation Accountant must work well in a team setting and provide excellent customer service to key Foundation partners including, but not limited to, donors, nonprofits, and professional advisors.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. ACCOUNTING ACTIVITIES
    1. Process gifts of cash and other cash receipts, including credit card and stock gifts; export gift receipt letters.
    2. Process accounts payable activity, including verifying and entering invoices, preparing check runs and fielding vendor inquiries.
    3. Process grant and scholarship distribution checks, including working with grant staff to ensure grants are within fund and GSCF guidelines.
    4. Process interfund gifts and grants.
    5. Prepare quarterly fund statements.
    6. Prepare financial reports as needed for fund holders, affiliates, and other constituents.

2. DATABASE REPORTING AND MANAGEMENT

    1. Maintain donor database and perform maintenance as needed.
    2. Create ad-hoc financial and mailing reports, including importing/exporting between Excel and the database.

    1. Field questions from donors, fund holders and other constituents as needed.
    2. Set up fundholders with online donor portal access and serve as customer support.
    3. Serve as backup for Director of Finance for various processes including monthly and quarterly investment reporting and transactions and bank reconcilements.
    4. Assist Director of Finance & Operations with annual audit, IRS Form 990 preparation, annual budget.
    5. Complete various surveys and audit confirmation requests.
    6. Work with the Director of Finance to prepare reports for the Finance and Audit Committee meetings.

 ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA not required)
  2. 2+ years of relevant experience
  3. Understanding of GAAP and professional accounting standards
  4. Exceptional attention to detail
  5. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and work both under supervision and independently
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  1. Nonprofit fund accounting experience or desire to work in nonprofit field.
  2. Willingness to learn database principles, including reports, import/export functions and configuration features.
