Community foundation awards over $35,000 in community grants

SALINA, Kan.— The Greater Salina Community Foundation recently awarded over $35,000 to 9 charitable projects and organizations in Saline County through its competitive winter grant cycle.  This cycle’s grant recipients include the following:

Community Impact Grants:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Salina, $1,500 towards volunteer recruitment for the community-based mentoring program.
  • Cornerstone Classical School, $5,000 towards funding the purchase and installation of updated playground equipment.
  • Blessed Hope Family, Inc., $1,500 towards the purchase of curriculum for Trauma Based Relational Intervention.

Capacity Building Grants:

  • Prairieland Market, $5,000 towards the purchase of a large capacity walk-in cooler
  • Kansas Wesleyan University, $2,330 towards supporting the Women in Leadership event.
  • Lakewood Discovery Center, $5,000 towards the purchase of equipment to operate the interactive technology.

Operating Grants:

  • Sunrise Presbyterian Church, $5,000 towards teacher salaries, tablets, chemistry items and music supplies for the CASTLE project.
  • American Red Cross, $5,000 to help support the cost of one community blood drive in Saline County.
  • Salina Central Theatre Booster Club, $5,000 to help support students attending the 2024 International Thespian Festival.

 

This round of grants was made possible by four funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which supports projects and programs that improve the community’s quality of life; the Kansas Health Foundation Fund, which supports the public health of Saline County; the Fund for Greater Salina which supports funds used for a variety of charitable causes that positively impact the community; and the L.P. "Pat" Mullen Fund, which supports hands-on learning opportunities for youth in the areas of arts and humanities and science, technology, and invention.
